Try something completely different with Ocean Quest – Wakeboarding.
Wakeboarding is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. We offer a range of options from try-out sessions, basic instruction through to advanced techniques. All training is done locally here in Porthcawl or along the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, South Wales.

Wakeboarding involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of the water, behind a boat similar to water skiing. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques.

Try out Wakeboarding with us. We’ll teach you the best wakeboarding techniques and can offer you help and guidance on a wide variety of Wakeboards and Wakeboarding gear when you experience it yourself on one of our ‘Wakeboard Experience’ days.

The Wakeboarder is towed behind a boat; typically at relatively slow speeds (33-39 km/h or 21-24 mph) depending on weather conditions. Wakeboards are buoyant and usually contain fins on the bottom and stationary bindings on the top for each foot. Wakeboards are ridden sideways like a skateboard or snowboard.

The configuration and positioning of the fins and bindings vary according to rider preference. Fins are adjusted to make the board more or less responsive. Bindings are usually angled in a way that enables the rider to ride the board backwards (also known as “Switch” or “Fakie”).

Beginner wakeboarders generally start at slower speeds in order to cushion their falls. A common starting point is 29 km/h (18 mph). They also typically utilize shorter ropes in order to facilitate “clearing the wake” since the wake is narrower as the rider gets closer to the boat.

Unless you can afford a high-end speedboat desinged for wakeboarding such as the Mastercraft range you either have to search a specialist to fit a tower to your boat or fit your own.

We have access to a range of powerboats to help you with Wakeboard Experience ‘taster days’ and “try it out” sessions, from only £50 per person, call us now for details.
